Lars Thodberg Bertelsen is a Danish classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a conductor, pianist, and composer. Born on August 22, 1975, in Copenhagen, Denmark, Bertelsen showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He went on to study at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, where he received his diploma in piano performance in 1999. Bertelsen's career as a musician began to take off in the early 2000s, when he started to gain recognition as a conductor. In 2002, he was appointed as the principal conductor of the Danish National Youth Symphony Orchestra, a position he held until 2005. During this time, he also served as the assistant conductor of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, working under the renowned conductor Thomas Dausgaard. In 2006, Bertelsen made his debut as a conductor with the Royal Danish Opera, leading a production of Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro." In 2007, he was awarded the prestigious Danish Conductors Association's Prize for his work with the Danish National Youth Symphony Orchestra. In 2010, he was appointed as the principal conductor of the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, a position he held until 2016. During his tenure with the orchestra, he led many successful performances and recordings, including a critically acclaimed recording of Carl Nielsen's Symphony No. 4. Bertelsen has also been recognized for his work as a pianist and composer. In 2012, he was awarded the Danish Arts Foundation's three-year working grant for composers, and in 2014, he received the Danish Music Critics' Association's Prize for his piano playing. He has also been a frequent guest on Danish radio and television programs, where he has discussed his work as a musician and shared his insights into classical music.
