Artist Info
The Salzburger Kammerphilharmonie is a classical music ensemble based in Salzburg, Austria. The ensemble was founded in 1992 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music and a desire to create a new kind of ensemble that would combine the intimacy and flexibility of a chamber group with the power and richness of a full orchestra. The founding members of the Salzburger Kammerphilharmonie were all graduates of the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, one of the world's leading conservatories for classical music. They included violinists Gregor Hinterreiter and Wolfgang Redik, violist Andreas Schablas, cellist Martin Mumelter, and double bassist Alois Posch. These musicians were all accomplished soloists and chamber musicians in their own right, but they shared a vision of creating a new kind of ensemble that would be dedicated to exploring the full range of chamber music repertoire, from the Baroque to the contemporary. From the beginning, the Salzburger Kammerphilharmonie was committed to performing without a conductor, which allowed the musicians to collaborate more closely and to create a more intimate and expressive sound. This approach also required a high level of musical discipline and communication, as each musician had to be fully engaged and aware of the others in order to create a cohesive and dynamic performance. One of the early highlights of the Salzburger Kammerphilharmonie's career was their performance at the Salzburg Festival in 1994, where they played a program of works by Mozart, Haydn, and Schubert. This performance was widely praised for its clarity, precision, and emotional depth, and it helped to establish the ensemble as one of the leading chamber groups in Europe. Over the years, the Salzburger Kammerphilharmonie has continued to perform at major festivals and concert halls around the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Musikverein in Vienna. They have also collaborated with many of the world's leading soloists, including pianists Martha Argerich and Radu Lupu, violinist Gidon Kremer, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. One of the ensemble's most notable collaborations was with the composer and conductor Pierre Boulez, who worked with the Salzburger Kammerphilharmonie on a series of concerts and recordings of his own music. Boulez was impressed by the ensemble's precision and flexibility, and he praised their ability to bring out the nuances and subtleties of his complex and challenging music. In addition to their performances and recordings, the Salzburger Kammerphilharmonie has also been recognized with numerous awards and honors. They have won the Echo Klassik Award, one of the most prestigious awards in classical music, for their recordings of Mozart's chamber music and Schubert's "Trout" Quintet. They have also been named the "Chamber Orchestra of the Year" by the German music magazine "Opernwelt" and the "Ensemble of the Year" by the Austrian music magazine "Musica". Despite their many achievements, the Salzburger Kammerphilharmonie remains committed to their original vision of creating a new kind of ensemble that is dedicated to exploring the full range of chamber music repertoire. They continue to perform without a conductor, which allows them to create a more intimate and expressive sound, and they remain committed to collaborating closely with each other and with the composers and soloists they work with.More....
