Born on May 5, 1980, in Helsinki, Finland, Junnonen showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He went on to study at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in piano performance. Junnonen's talent as a pianist was evident from an early age, and he quickly gained recognition for his skill and musicality. He won several awards and competitions, including the first prize in the Finnish National Piano Competition in 1998 and the second prize in the International Piano Competition in Rome in 2001.
