He was the youngest of four children and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist, and they both encouraged their children to pursue music. Pellegrino began his musical training at a young age, studying the piano and violin. He showed exceptional talent and was soon recognized as a prodigy. At the age of 12, he made his debut as a soloist with the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor. Pellegrino continued his studies at the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella in Naples, where he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and composer Achille Longo. He graduated with honors in 1952 and went on to win several prestigious awards, including the International Piano Competition in Geneva in 1953. In the early 1950s, Pellegrino began performing extensively throughout Europe, earning critical acclaim for his virtuosic performances. He was particularly renowned for his interpretations of the works of Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff. In 1956, Pellegrino made his debut in the United States, performing with the New York Philharmonic under the baton of Leonard Bernstein. The performance was a resounding success, and Pellegrino was hailed as a rising star in the classical music world. Over the next few years, Pellegrino continued to perform extensively throughout the world, collaborating with some of the most renowned conductors and orchestras of the time. He also recorded several albums, including a critically acclaimed recording of Chopin's complete works for solo piano. In 1962, Pellegrino was appointed as a professor of piano at the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella, where he remained until his retirement in 1997. He was a beloved teacher, and many of his students went on to have successful careers in the music industry. Throughout his career, Pellegrino received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the classical music world. In 1972, he was awarded the prestigious Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, and in 1982, he was awarded the title of Knight of the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
