William Aide is a renowned Canadian classical pianist, teacher, and author. He was born on August 22, 1938, in Toronto, Canada. Aide’s parents were both musicians, and his father was a violinist in the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Aide began playing the piano at the age of four and showed exceptional talent from an early age. Aide’s musical education began at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, where he studied with Alberto Guerrero. Guerrero was a renowned pianist and teacher who had also taught Glenn Gould. Aide continued his studies with Guerrero until he was 18 years old. He then went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied with Rosina Lhévinne. In 1961, Aide won the prestigious Leventritt Competition, which is one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world. The competition was held in New York City, and Aide was the first Canadian to win the competition. The Leventritt Competition launched Aide’s career as a concert pianist, and he began performing all over the world. Aide has performed with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed at many of the world’s leading concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In addition to his career as a concert pianist, Aide has also been a dedicated teacher. He has taught at many of the world’s leading music schools, including the Juilliard School, the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, and the University of Toronto. Aide has also written several books on piano technique and interpretation, including “Piano Technique: A Comprehensive Approach to Piano Playing” and “Interpreting Chopin: Analysis and Performance.” Aide has received many awards and honors throughout his career. In 1975, he was awarded the Order of Canada, which is one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a Canadian citizen. In 1999, he was awarded the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award, which is one of the most prestigious awards in the Canadian arts community. Aide has also been awarded honorary doctorates from several universities, including the University of Toronto and the University of Western Ontario. Despite his many accomplishments, Aide has remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He has always been passionate about music and has worked tirelessly to share his love of music with others.
