Norm Lewis is a renowned American actor and singer who has made a name for himself in the world of classical music. Born on June 2, 1963, in Tallahassee, Florida, Lewis grew up in a family that was passionate about music. His mother was a gospel singer, and his father was a musician who played the saxophone and the piano. Lewis was exposed to music from a young age and began singing in his church choir when he was just six years old. As a child, Lewis was also interested in sports and played football and basketball. However, he soon realized that his true passion lay in music, and he began taking voice lessons. He attended Edgewater High School in Orlando, Florida, where he was a member of the school's choir and drama club. After graduating from high school, Lewis went on to study music at the University of Miami. After completing his studies, Lewis moved to New York City to pursue a career in music. He began performing in various musicals and operas, and his talent soon caught the attention of Broadway producers. In 1993, he made his Broadway debut in the musical "The Who's Tommy," in which he played the role of the Pinball Wizard. He went on to appear in several other Broadway productions, including "Miss Saigon," "The Wild Party," and "Chicago." In 2006, Lewis received critical acclaim for his performance in the Broadway revival of "Les Misérables." He played the role of Javert, the ruthless police inspector who is obsessed with capturing the fugitive Jean Valjean. Lewis's powerful voice and commanding stage presence earned him rave reviews, and he was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. Lewis continued to make a name for himself in the world of classical music, and he has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras and opera companies. In 2008, he made his debut with the New York Philharmonic, singing the role of Porgy in a concert version of "Porgy and Bess." He has also performed with the Boston Pops, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the San Francisco Symphony. In addition to his work in classical music, Lewis has also appeared in several films and television shows. He had a recurring role on the hit television series "Scandal," and he has appeared in films such as "Sex and the City 2" and "Confidence."
