The American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME) is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2004 by cellist and artistic director Clarice Jensen. The ensemble is based in New York City and is known for its innovative and dynamic performances of contemporary classical music. ACME's founding members included violinists Caleb Burhans and Yuki Numata Resnick, violist Nadia Sirota, and cellist Clarice Jensen. The ensemble was formed with the goal of performing contemporary classical music in a way that was both accessible and engaging for audiences. ACME's members are all highly skilled musicians who have performed with some of the world's most renowned orchestras and ensembles. Since its founding, ACME has become one of the most respected and sought-after contemporary classical music ensembles in the world. The ensemble has performed at major venues and festivals around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Barbican Centre in London, and the Edinburgh International Festival. ACME has also collaborated with some of the most important composers of our time, including Philip Glass, Steve Reich, John Adams, and Terry Riley. One of ACME's most notable performances was its 2014 performance of Steve Reich's "Music for 18 Musicians" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The performance was part of the museum's "Reich/ Richter" exhibition, which featured the work of both Reich and visual artist Gerhard Richter. The performance was widely praised for its precision and energy, and was hailed as one of the highlights of the exhibition. ACME has also received numerous awards and accolades for its performances and recordings. In 2014, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming.
