Nathan Williamson is a British classical pianist, composer, and conductor. He was born on August 22, 1972, in London, England. Williamson grew up in a musical family, with his mother being a pianist and his father a composer. He began playing the piano at the age of four and showed exceptional talent from an early age. Williamson attended the Purcell School of Music in London, where he studied with pianist Patsy Toh. He then went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music, where he was awarded the prestigious Queen's Commendation for Excellence. Williamson continued his studies at the Juilliard School in New York, where he studied with pianist Jerome Lowenthal. Throughout his career, Williamson has performed extensively as a soloist, chamber musician, and conductor. He has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Williamson has also collaborated with many leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. One of Williamson's most notable performances was his debut at the BBC Proms in 2002, where he performed Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. The performance was highly acclaimed, with The Guardian describing Williamson's playing as "dazzling" and "virtuosic." In addition to his performances as a pianist, Williamson is also an accomplished composer. He has written works for solo piano, chamber ensembles, and orchestras. His compositions have been performed by many leading musicians and ensembles, including the London Symphony Orchestra and the Nash Ensemble. Williamson has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. In 1999, he was awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society's Julius Isserlis Scholarship, which enabled him to study with pianist Murray Perahia. He was also a finalist in the Leeds International Piano Competition in 2000. In addition to his performing and composing career, Williamson is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and he currently teaches at the University of Southampton.
