ConVivium is a classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their unique blend of traditional and contemporary music since their inception in 2012. The group was founded by four talented musicians who shared a passion for classical music and a desire to create something new and exciting. The birth of ConVivium can be traced back to the early years of the 21st century when the four founding members, violinist Rachel Hall, cellist Rebecca Hepplewhite, pianist James Sherlock, and clarinetist Tom Jackson, were studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England. They quickly discovered that they shared a love for classical music and a desire to explore new ways of interpreting and performing it. After completing their studies, the four musicians went their separate ways, pursuing their own careers in the classical music world. However, they remained in touch and continued to collaborate on various projects. It wasn't until 2012 that they decided to come together again and form ConVivium. The name ConVivium is derived from the Latin word "convivere," which means "to live together." This reflects the group's philosophy of creating music that brings people together and celebrates the shared human experience. From the beginning, ConVivium set out to create a unique sound that blended traditional classical music with contemporary influences. They drew inspiration from a wide range of musical genres, including jazz, folk, and world music, and incorporated these elements into their performances. One of the highlights of ConVivium's early career was their performance at the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The group received critical acclaim for their innovative approach to classical music and their ability to connect with audiences from all walks of life. In 2014, ConVivium released their debut album, "ConVivium: Live at St. George's Bristol." The album featured a mix of traditional classical pieces and original compositions, showcasing the group's versatility and creativity. Over the years, ConVivium has continued to push the boundaries of classical music, collaborating with other artists and experimenting with new sounds and styles. They have performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including the Royal Albert Hall in London and the Sydney Opera House in Australia. In 2018, ConVivium was awarded the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Chamber Music Award, recognizing their outstanding contributions to the world of classical music. The award was a testament to the group's talent and dedication, and cemented their place as one of the most innovative and exciting classical music ensembles of our time. Today, ConVivium continues to inspire audiences around the world with their unique blend of classical and contemporary music. They remain committed to creating music that celebrates the human experience and brings people together, and their passion and creativity show no signs of slowing down.
