He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. Hidas began playing the piano at a young age and later learned to play the trumpet and the French horn. He studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, where he received a degree in composition in 1952. After completing his studies, Hidas worked as a conductor and composer for the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. He also taught at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music and the Béla Bartók Conservatory in Budapest. In 1956, Hidas left Hungary and moved to Austria, where he worked as a freelance composer and conductor. Hidas' music is characterized by its use of traditional forms and techniques, combined with modern harmonies and rhythms. His compositions include works for orchestra, chamber ensembles, and solo instruments. Some of his most famous works include his Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra, his Concerto for Horn and Orchestra, and his Symphony No. 1. Hidas' Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra was written in 1973 and is considered one of his most popular works. The piece is known for its virtuosic trumpet solos and its use of jazz and rock rhythms. The Concerto for Horn and Orchestra, written in 1980, is another popular work that showcases Hidas' skill as a composer. The piece features a solo horn that is accompanied by a full orchestra. Hidas' Symphony No. 1, written in 1968, is a large-scale work that is divided into four movements. The piece is known for its use of traditional forms, such as the sonata form, and its modern harmonies and rhythms. The symphony has been performed by orchestras around the world and is considered one of Hidas' most important works. In addition to his work as a composer, Hidas was also a respected conductor. He conducted orchestras in Hungary, Austria, and Germany, and was known for his interpretations of the works of Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms. Hidas continued to compose and conduct throughout his life, and his music remains popular today. He died on September 8, 2007, in Vienna, Austria, at the age of 79.More....
