Chamber Orchestra Renaissance is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2005 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for early music. The ensemble is based in New York City and is known for its innovative and dynamic performances of music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The founding members of Chamber Orchestra Renaissance were violinist and artistic director Eiko Kano, cellist and executive director Peter Seidenberg, and harpsichordist and music director Dongsok Shin. All three musicians had extensive experience performing early music and were committed to bringing this repertoire to a wider audience. From its earliest days, Chamber Orchestra Renaissance was dedicated to performing music on period instruments, which are replicas of instruments from the time period in which the music was written. This approach allows the ensemble to recreate the sound and style of the music as it would have been heard by audiences in the Renaissance and Baroque eras. One of the highlights of Chamber Orchestra Renaissance's early years was its debut performance at the Boston Early Music Festival in 2007. The ensemble received critical acclaim for its performance of music by Giovanni Gabrieli and other composers of the Venetian School. This performance helped to establish Chamber Orchestra Renaissance as a leading ensemble in the early music world. Over the years, Chamber Orchestra Renaissance has performed at major venues and festivals throughout the United States and Europe. The ensemble has collaborated with a wide range of musicians and artists, including the vocal ensemble TENET, the dance company Armitage Gone! Dance, and the visual artist Kevork Mourad. In addition to its live performances, Chamber Orchestra Renaissance has released several recordings, including a critically acclaimed album of music by Johann Sebastian Bach. The ensemble's recordings have been praised for their technical excellence and their ability to capture the spirit and energy of the music. Chamber Orchestra Renaissance has also been recognized with several awards and honors. In 2010, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious CMA/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, which recognizes ensembles that demonstrate a commitment to innovative and diverse programming. The ensemble has also been featured on NPR's Performance Today and has been praised by The New York Times and other major publications. Today, Chamber Orchestra Renaissance continues to be a leading ensemble in the early music world. The ensemble's commitment to period instruments and historically informed performance has helped to bring new life to music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, and its innovative programming and collaborations have helped to expand the audience for this repertoire. With its talented musicians and visionary leadership, Chamber Orchestra Renaissance is sure to continue making an impact on the classical music world for years to come.
