Genre:Avant-GardeCamilla Hoitenga is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of contemporary music. She was born on December 17, 1959, in Flint, Michigan, USA. Hoitenga grew up in a family of musicians, and her parents were both music teachers. Her father played the trumpet, and her mother was a pianist. Hoitenga started playing the flute at the age of nine and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. Hoitenga attended the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, where she studied with renowned flutist Julius Baker. She then went on to study at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where she earned her Bachelor of Music degree. After completing her undergraduate studies, Hoitenga moved to Europe to continue her education. She studied with Aurèle Nicolet at the Basel Music Academy in Switzerland and later with Peter-Lukas Graf at the Zurich Conservatory. Hoitenga's career as a professional flutist began in the early 1980s when she joined the Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt, Germany. The Ensemble Modern is a contemporary music ensemble that specializes in performing works by living composers. Hoitenga quickly established herself as a leading performer of contemporary music and has since become one of the most sought-after flutists in the world. Hoitenga has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. She has also collaborated with many of the world's leading composers, including Karlheinz Stockhausen, Kaija Saariaho, and John Cage. Hoitenga has premiered numerous works written specifically for her, and she has been instrumental in the development of new techniques and extended playing techniques for the flute. One of Hoitenga's most significant achievements was her collaboration with Karlheinz Stockhausen on his monumental work "Klang." "Klang" is a 21-hour cycle of works that explores the relationship between sound and time. Hoitenga performed in many of the works in the cycle and was instrumental in the development of the extended playing techniques required for the piece. "Klang" premiered in 2004 and has since been performed in many of the world's leading concert halls. Hoitenga has also been recognized for her contributions to the world of music. In 2009, she was awarded the prestigious "Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres" by the French government in recognition of her contributions to the arts. She has also been awarded the "Prix de la Critique Musicale" by the French music critics' association and the "Prix de la Fondation Prince Pierre de Monaco" for her contributions to contemporary music. In addition to her work as a performer, Hoitenga is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught at many of the world's leading music schools, including the Paris Conservatory, the Basel Music Academy, and the Royal Academy of Music in London. She is currently a professor of flute at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Germany. Hoitenga's recordings have also received critical acclaim. She has recorded numerous albums of contemporary music, including works by Karlheinz Stockhausen, Kaija Saariaho, and John Cage. Her recording of Saariaho's "Graal théâtre" was awarded the "Diapason d'Or" in 1995, and her recording of Stockhausen's "Klang" was awarded the "Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik" in 2011.More....
