He was born on June 15, 1965, in Moscow, Russia. Petrov's parents were both musicians, and they encouraged him to pursue music from a young age. He started playing the piano when he was just five years old, and by the time he was a teenager, he had already shown exceptional talent. Petrov's parents recognized his potential and enrolled him in the Moscow Conservatory, one of the most prestigious music schools in the world. There, he studied under some of the most renowned music teachers, including Vladimir Ashkenazy and Sviatoslav Richter. Petrov's talent and dedication to music were evident from the start, and he quickly became one of the most promising students at the conservatory. After completing his studies, Petrov began his career as a concert pianist. He made his debut performance at the age of 21, playing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. Over the years, Petrov performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He was known for his exceptional technique and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. One of Petrov's most memorable performances was his rendition of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the London Symphony Orchestra. The performance was recorded and released as a CD, which went on to win a Grammy Award for Best Classical Instrumental Soloist Performance. Petrov was also a prolific recording artist, and he released numerous albums throughout his career. Some of his most notable recordings include his interpretations of Chopin's Nocturnes, Beethoven's Piano Sonatas, and Rachmaninoff's Piano Concertos. In addition to his performances and recordings, Petrov was also a dedicated music educator.
