He went on to study at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where he earned degrees in piano performance and composition. Díaz-Jerez's early compositions were influenced by the works of classical composers such as Bach, Beethoven, and Chopin, as well as by the music of Spanish composers such as Manuel de Falla and Joaquín Rodrigo. He also drew inspiration from the landscapes and culture of his native Canary Islands, incorporating elements of traditional Canarian music into his compositions. In 1995, Díaz-Jerez won first prize in the Concurso Nacional de Composición Ciudad de Albacete for his piano piece "Tres Piezas Breves." This early success encouraged him to pursue a career as a composer, and he went on to win numerous awards and honors for his work. One of Díaz-Jerez's most notable compositions is his piano concerto "Maghek," which was commissioned by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and premiered in 2011. The concerto is inspired by the ancient Canarian language of Silbo Gomero, which uses whistling to communicate over long distances. Another notable work by Díaz-Jerez is his opera "La Casa Imaginaria," which premiered in 2016 at the Teatro Pérez Galdós in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The opera tells the story of a young girl who creates an imaginary world to escape the difficulties of her everyday life. Díaz-Jerez's music is both playful and poignant, capturing the whimsy and wonder of the girl's imaginary world while also conveying the emotional depth of her struggles. Díaz-Jerez's music is characterized by its emotional intensity, technical virtuosity, and innovative use of harmony and rhythm. He is known for his ability to blend traditional and contemporary elements in his compositions, creating a sound that is both timeless and modern. In addition to his work as a composer, Díaz-Jerez is also an accomplished pianist. He has performed as a soloist with orchestras around the world, including the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also recorded several albums of his own compositions, including "Maghek" and "La Casa Imaginaria." Díaz-Jerez's contributions to the world of classical music have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 2012, he was awarded the Premio Nacional de Música de España, the highest honor for a musician in Spain. He has also been awarded the Premio Internacional de Composición de la Fundación Guerrero, the Premio de la Crítica de Canarias, and the Premio de la Música de Canarias, among others. Despite his many accomplishments, Díaz-Jerez remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to compose and perform music that is both innovative and emotionally resonant, pushing the boundaries of classical music and inspiring audiences around the world.
