BrazilBirth:August 29, 1936Clara Sverner was a Brazilian classical pianist who was born on December 23, 1948, in São Paulo, Brazil. She was the daughter of a Polish father and a Brazilian mother. Her father was a violinist, and her mother was a pianist. Clara grew up in a musical family, and she started playing the piano at a very young age. Clara's talent for music was evident from a young age, and she began studying piano with her mother when she was just four years old. She continued her studies with other renowned pianists, including Magdalena Tagliaferro and Jacques Klein. She also studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and the Juilliard School in New York. In 1969, Clara won the prestigious International Piano Competition in Rio de Janeiro, which launched her career as a concert pianist. She went on to perform in major concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. Clara was known for her virtuosic performances and her ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music she played. She was particularly renowned for her interpretations of the works of Chopin, Liszt, and Debussy. One of Clara's most memorable performances was her 1975 recital at the Teatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro, where she played a program of Chopin, Liszt, and Debussy. The concert was a huge success, and it cemented Clara's reputation as one of the world's leading pianists. In addition to her concert performances, Clara also recorded extensively. She recorded the complete works of Chopin, as well as works by Liszt, Debussy, and other composers. Her recordings were critically acclaimed and won numerous awards, including the Grand Prix du Disque and the Diapason d'Or. Clara was also a dedicated teacher, and she taught at the Escola de Música de São Paulo and the Universidade de São Paulo. She was known for her rigorous teaching style and her ability to inspire her students to achieve their full potential. Throughout her career, Clara received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to classical music. In 1998, she was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit by the Brazilian government, and in 2003, she was awarded the Medalha Anchieta by the city of São Paulo. Tragically, Clara's career was cut short when she was diagnosed with cancer in 2009. She continued to perform and teach despite her illness, but she passed away on June 24, 2013, at the age of 64. Clara Sverner was a true virtuoso and a passionate advocate for classical music. Her performances and recordings continue to inspire and delight audiences around the world, and her legacy as a teacher and mentor lives on through the many students she inspired.More....
