BrazilFrancis Hime is a Brazilian composer, pianist, and arranger who has made significant contributions to the world of classical music. Born on August 31, 1939, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Hime grew up in a family of musicians. His father, Lúcio Hime, was a conductor, and his mother, Mercedes Hime, was a pianist. Hime's siblings, Olivia and Sergio, also pursued careers in music. Hime began his musical education at a young age, studying piano with his mother. He later studied composition with Guerra-Peixe and conducting with Eleazar de Carvalho. In 1963, Hime graduated from the National School of Music in Rio de Janeiro. Hime's early career was marked by his work as a pianist and arranger for some of Brazil's most prominent musicians, including Elis Regina, Gal Costa, and Chico Buarque. He also composed music for films and television shows, including the theme song for the Brazilian soap opera "O Bem-Amado." In the 1970s, Hime began to focus more on classical music composition. He composed a number of works for orchestra, including "Concerto para Piano e Orquestra" (1973), "Concerto para Violino e Orquestra" (1975), and "Concerto para Flauta e Orquestra" (1977). These works showcase Hime's skill as a composer, with their intricate melodies and complex harmonies. Hime's most famous work is perhaps his "Sinfonia do Rio de Janeiro" (Symphony of Rio de Janeiro), which he composed in 1985. The symphony is a tribute to the city of Rio de Janeiro, and its four movements are each named after a different neighborhood in the city. The work is a celebration of the city's vibrant culture and rich history, and it has become a beloved piece of Brazilian classical music. In addition to his work as a composer, Hime has also been a prominent figure in Brazilian music education. He has taught at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and the State University of Rio de Janeiro, and he has served as the director of the National School of Music. Hime's contributions to Brazilian classical music have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 2009, he was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit by the Brazilian government, and in 2015, he was inducted into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame. Today, Hime continues to compose and perform music, and his work remains an important part of the Brazilian classical music canon. His compositions are known for their beauty, complexity, and emotional depth, and they continue to inspire and delight audiences around the world.More....
