She was born into a family of musicians, and her father was a well-known violinist. Grinberg showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. She received her first piano lessons from her mother, who was also a pianist. Grinberg's family moved to Moscow when she was six years old, and she continued her piano studies with renowned teachers such as Konstantin Igumnov and Alexander Goldenweiser. She made her debut performance at the age of 11, playing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. Grinberg's talent was recognized early on, and she won several awards and competitions throughout her career. In 1927, she won first prize at the All-Union Piano Competition in Moscow, and in 1933, she won the prestigious Chopin Competition in Warsaw, Poland. Grinberg's career took off in the 1930s, and she became known for her interpretations of Chopin, Beethoven, and Schumann. She performed extensively throughout the Soviet Union and Europe, and her performances were highly acclaimed by audiences and critics alike. One of Grinberg's most notable performances was her interpretation of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, "Emperor," with the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra in 1941.
