Kristina Nilsson was born on May 20, 1985, in Stockholm, Sweden. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her mother being a pianist and her father a cellist. From a young age, Nilsson showed a natural talent for music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Nilsson's musical education began at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where she studied under the tutelage of renowned violinist Per Enoksson. She later went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where she received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in violin performance. Throughout her career, Nilsson has performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. She has also collaborated with many renowned conductors, such as Daniel Barenboim, Sir Simon Rattle, and Gustavo Dudamel. One of Nilsson's most notable performances was her debut with the New York Philharmonic in 2010, where she performed the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto under the baton of Alan Gilbert. The performance was met with critical acclaim, with The New York Times praising Nilsson's "dazzling technique and expressive playing." In addition to her performances as a soloist, Nilsson is also an active chamber musician. She has performed with many esteemed chamber groups, including the Emerson String Quartet and the Guarneri Quartet. In 2007, she was awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant, which is given to outstanding young musicians who show great potential for a major career in music. Aside from her performing career, Nilsson is also a dedicated teacher. She has taught masterclasses at many prestigious institutions, including the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and the Juilliard School in New York City. In addition to her classical music career, Nilsson is also passionate about exploring other genres of music. She has collaborated with many artists in the pop and rock music world, including the band Radiohead and singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright.
