Artist Info
Lynn Vartan is a renowned percussionist and educator in the world of classical music. Born in 1971 in the United States, Vartan grew up in a musical family and began playing the piano at a young age. However, it wasn't until she discovered percussion in high school that she found her true passion. Vartan went on to study percussion at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where she earned her Bachelor of Music degree. She then continued her studies at the University of Michigan, where she received her Master of Music degree in percussion performance. After completing her education, Vartan began her professional career as a percussionist, performing with various orchestras and ensembles across the United States. She quickly gained a reputation as a skilled and versatile musician, capable of playing a wide range of percussion instruments with precision and artistry. One of the highlights of Vartan's career came in 2002, when she was invited to perform as a soloist with the Boston Pops Orchestra. She played the marimba in a performance of Michael Daugherty's "Raise the Roof," a piece that was specifically written for her. The performance was a huge success, and Vartan received rave reviews for her virtuosic playing. In addition to her work as a performer, Vartan is also a dedicated educator. She has taught percussion at several universities, including the University of Massachusetts Amherst and the University of Arkansas. She is currently a professor of percussion at the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University in Georgia. Vartan has also been recognized for her contributions to the world of classical music. In 2007, she was awarded the prestigious Percussive Arts Society's Outstanding Service Award, which recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of percussion. She has also been a featured artist at several international percussion festivals, including the International Percussion Festival in Taipei, Taiwan, and the Festival Internacional de Percussão in Brazil. Despite her many accomplishments, Vartan remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to perform and teach, inspiring a new generation of percussionists to follow in her footsteps.More....
