Matias de Oliveira Pinto was a Brazilian classical music artist who was born on May 12, 1985, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a renowned classical guitarist. Matias grew up surrounded by music and started playing the piano at the age of four. He showed a natural talent for music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Matias received his early music education at the Escola de Música Villa-Lobos in Rio de Janeiro. He later went on to study at the Conservatório Brasileiro de Música in Rio de Janeiro, where he received a degree in piano performance. He continued his studies in Europe, where he studied with some of the most renowned pianists of the time. Matias made his debut as a soloist with the Rio de Janeiro Symphony Orchestra at the age of 16. He quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent and was invited to perform with orchestras all over the world. He performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Matias was known for his exceptional technique and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he played. He was particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Chopin, Liszt, and Beethoven. He was also a champion of contemporary music and premiered many works by Brazilian composers. Matias received numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 2005, he won the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, which is one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world. He was the first Brazilian pianist to win this competition. He also won the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 2007, which is another highly prestigious competition. Matias was also a dedicated teacher and taught at the Conservatório Brasileiro de Música in Rio de Janeiro.
