Genre:ChoralConcertoOperaSymphonyThe Failoni Orchestra is a classical music ensemble based in Budapest, Hungary. It was founded in 1981 by Hungarian conductor and violinist, Mátyás Antal. The orchestra is named after the Hungarian violinist and conductor, Albert Ferenc Failoni, who was a prominent figure in Hungarian music during the early 20th century. The Failoni Orchestra is made up of approximately 70 musicians, including string, woodwind, brass, and percussion players. The ensemble has a reputation for its high level of musicianship and its ability to perform a wide range of repertoire, from Baroque to contemporary music. One of the highlights of the Failoni Orchestra's early years was its collaboration with the Hungarian composer, György Ligeti. In 1983, the orchestra premiered Ligeti's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, which was written specifically for the orchestra's concertmaster, Vilmos Szabadi. The performance was a critical success and helped to establish the orchestra's reputation as a leading ensemble in Hungary. Over the years, the Failoni Orchestra has performed with many renowned soloists, including pianist Martha Argerich, cellist Mischa Maisky, and violinist Maxim Vengerov. The orchestra has also collaborated with a number of prominent conductors, including Sir Neville Marriner, Pinchas Steinberg, and Yuri Temirkanov. One of the orchestra's most notable performances was its 1991 concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London, which was part of the BBC Proms series. The orchestra performed works by Bartók, Kodály, and Liszt, and was conducted by Mátyás Antal. The performance was well-received by both audiences and critics, and helped to raise the orchestra's profile internationally. In addition to its performances, the Failoni Orchestra has also recorded extensively. The orchestra has released recordings on a number of labels, including Naxos, Hungaroton, and Chandos. Some of the orchestra's most acclaimed recordings include its interpretations of Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra and Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta, as well as its recordings of works by Liszt and Kodály. Throughout its history, the Failoni Orchestra has received numerous awards and accolades. In 1996, the orchestra was awarded the prestigious Kossuth Prize, which is Hungary's highest cultural honor. The orchestra has also been recognized for its recordings, receiving the Grand Prix du Disque and the Diapason d'Or awards for its Bartók recordings. Today, the Failoni Orchestra continues to be one of Hungary's leading classical music ensembles. The orchestra performs regularly in Budapest and throughout Hungary, as well as internationally. The ensemble's commitment to excellence and its dedication to promoting Hungarian music have made it a beloved institution in the world of classical music.More....
