Born in Barcelona, Spain, on May 17, 1954, Arimany showed an early interest in music and began playing the flute at the age of eight. He studied at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, Germany. Arimany's talent was recognized early on, and he won several awards and competitions as a young musician. In 1977, he won first prize at the International Music Competition in Geneva, Switzerland, which launched his career as a soloist. He went on to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. Arimany's repertoire is vast and includes works by some of the greatest composers in history, such as Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the music of Spanish composers, including Manuel de Falla and Joaquín Rodrigo. Arimany's performances are characterized by his technical mastery of the flute, his expressive phrasing, and his ability to convey the emotional depth of the music. In addition to his work as a soloist, Arimany is also a dedicated chamber musician. He has collaborated with some of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Tokyo String Quartet and the Guarneri Quartet. Arimany is also a passionate advocate for contemporary music and has premiered works by many contemporary composers. Arimany has recorded extensively throughout his career, with over 50 albums to his name. In 1997, he was awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi, one of the highest honors given by the government of Catalonia. In 2002, he was awarded the National Music Prize by the Spanish Ministry of Culture. In 2014, he was awarded the Gold Medal for Fine Arts by the Spanish government. Despite his many accomplishments, Arimany remains humble and dedicated to his craft.
