Born on December 22, 1933, in Paris, France, Dangain grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a clarinetist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Dangain showed a keen interest in music and began playing the clarinet at the age of nine. Dangain's early musical education was under the tutelage of his father, who was a member of the Paris Opera Orchestra. He later studied at the Paris Conservatory, where he was a student of the legendary clarinetist Ulysse Delécluse.
