I Musici di Santa Pelagia is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1988 in Palermo, Italy. The ensemble is named after the patron saint of Palermo, Santa Pelagia, and is known for its performances of Baroque and Classical music. The founding members of I Musici di Santa Pelagia were a group of young musicians who were passionate about early music and wanted to bring it to a wider audience. The ensemble started out as a small group of friends who would get together to play music in their spare time. However, their talent and dedication soon caught the attention of music lovers in Palermo, and they began to perform in public. The main members of I Musici di Santa Pelagia are violinist and artistic director Francesco Parrino, cellist and deputy artistic director Giuseppe Barone, and harpsichordist and organist Giuseppe Schinaia. Over the years, the ensemble has also collaborated with many other musicians, including sopranos Roberta Invernizzi and Maria Grazia Schiavo, and countertenor Filippo Mineccia. One of the highlights of I Musici di Santa Pelagia's career was their performance at the Festival de Musique Baroque de Pontoise in France in 1992. The ensemble received critical acclaim for their interpretation of Vivaldi's Four Seasons, and their performance was broadcast on French television. This performance helped to establish I Musici di Santa Pelagia as one of the leading Baroque ensembles in Europe. Another notable performance by I Musici di Santa Pelagia was their concert at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo in 2002. The ensemble performed a program of music by Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi, and the concert was attended by a capacity crowd. The performance was later released on CD and received widespread praise from critics. In addition to their performances, I Musici di Santa Pelagia has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1995, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Premio Abbiati by the Italian music critics' association for their contribution to the revival of Baroque music. They have also been awarded the Premio Palermo Ambasciatore della Cultura in recognition of their work in promoting the cultural heritage of Palermo. Today, I Musici di Santa Pelagia continues to perform and record music from the Baroque and Classical periods. The ensemble has released several CDs, including recordings of Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Bach's Brandenburg Concertos, and Handel's Water Music. They also continue to collaborate with other musicians and perform at festivals and concert halls around the world.
