Cornel Groza was born on May 10, 1985, in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a violinist and his mother a pianist. From a young age, Groza showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Groza's parents recognized his potential and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. He began taking piano lessons with renowned pianist and teacher, Valentin Gheorghiu, at the age of six. Gheorghiu recognized Groza's talent and became his mentor, guiding him through his musical education. Groza continued his studies at the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca, where he received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in piano performance. During his time at the academy, Groza won several awards and competitions, including the National Piano Competition in Bucharest and the International Piano Competition in Sinaia. After completing his studies, Groza moved to Vienna, Austria, to further his education at the University of Music and Performing Arts. He studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and teacher, Paul Badura-Skoda, and received his Doctorate in piano performance in 2013. Throughout his career, Groza has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Musikverein in Vienna, the Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. He has also performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Vienna Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. One of Groza's most notable performances was his debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2010, where he performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 with the Vienna Philharmonic. The performance was met with critical acclaim, and Groza was praised for his technical skill and musical interpretation. In addition to his performances, Groza is also a dedicated teacher and has taught masterclasses at several universities and music schools around the world. He is currently a professor of piano at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Throughout his career, Groza has received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to classical music. In 2012, he was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, and in 2016, he was named a Steinway Artist, joining a prestigious group of pianists who are recognized for their excellence in piano performance. Despite his success, Groza remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to push the boundaries of classical music and inspire audiences around the world with his performances.
