The UNLV Wind Orchestra is a classical music ensemble based in Las Vegas, Nevada. The ensemble was founded in 1997 by Dr. Thomas G. Leslie, who served as its conductor and director until 2019. The UNLV Wind Orchestra is composed of talented musicians from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and is known for its exceptional performances of wind band music. The UNLV Wind Orchestra has a rich history of outstanding performances and awards. In 2000, the ensemble was invited to perform at the prestigious Midwest Clinic in Chicago, Illinois, which is considered one of the most important events in the world of wind band music. The UNLV Wind Orchestra's performance at the Midwest Clinic was highly acclaimed, and it helped to establish the ensemble as one of the premier wind bands in the United States. Over the years, the UNLV Wind Orchestra has performed at numerous other prestigious events and venues, including the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) National Conference, the Western International Band Clinic, and the American Bandmasters Association (ABA) National Convention. The ensemble has also performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. The UNLV Wind Orchestra has also been recognized for its exceptional performances with numerous awards and honors. In 2003, the ensemble was awarded the Sudler Trophy, which is considered the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a wind band in the United States. The Sudler Trophy is awarded by the John Philip Sousa Foundation, and it recognizes outstanding achievement in the field of wind band music. In addition to the Sudler Trophy, the UNLV Wind Orchestra has also received numerous other awards and honors, including multiple invitations to perform at the CBDNA National Conference and the ABA National Convention. The ensemble has also been recognized by the National Band Association, the Nevada Music Educators Association, and the Nevada Arts Council. The UNLV Wind Orchestra is composed of talented musicians from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and is led by a team of experienced conductors and directors. In addition to Dr. Thomas G. Leslie, who served as the ensemble's founding conductor and director, the UNLV Wind Orchestra has been led by Dr. Anthony LaBounty, Dr. William J. Richardson, and Dr. Donato Cabrera. The ensemble's current conductor and director is Dr. Donato Cabrera, who has been with the UNLV Wind Orchestra since 2019. Dr. Cabrera is an accomplished conductor and musician, and he has worked with numerous other ensembles and orchestras throughout his career. Under Dr. Cabrera's leadership, the UNLV Wind Orchestra continues to thrive and to produce exceptional performances of wind band music. The UNLV Wind Orchestra is composed of talented musicians from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines. The ensemble includes undergraduate and graduate students from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, as well as community members and professional musicians. The UNLV Wind Orchestra is known for its exceptional musicianship and its commitment to excellence in wind band music. In addition to its performances and awards, the UNLV Wind Orchestra is also committed to education and outreach. The ensemble regularly works with local schools and community organizations to promote music education and to inspire young musicians.
