Role:EnsembleThe Claremont Trio is a classical music ensemble consisting of sisters Emily Bruskin (violin), Julia Bruskin (cello), and Donna Kwong (piano). The trio was formed in 1999 while the sisters were studying at the Juilliard School in New York City. Emily Bruskin, born in 1979, began playing the violin at the age of three. She studied with Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School and later with Miriam Fried at the New England Conservatory. She has won numerous awards, including the Naumburg Chamber Music Award and the Avery Fisher Career Grant. Julia Bruskin, born in 1981, started playing the cello at the age of four. She studied with Ardyth Alton at the Juilliard School and later with Timothy Eddy at the Mannes College of Music. She has won several awards, including the Grand Prize at the Coleman Chamber Music Competition and the Classical Recording Foundation’s Young Artist Award. Donna Kwong, born in 1979, began playing the piano at the age of five. She studied with Yoheved Kaplinsky at the Juilliard School and later with Robert McDonald at the Curtis Institute of Music. She has won several awards, including the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and the Concert Artists Guild International Competition. The Claremont Trio has performed at major venues throughout the United States, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. They have also performed internationally in countries such as Canada, England, and Japan. One of the highlights of the Claremont Trio’s career was their performance at the White House in 2003. They were invited to perform for President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush as part of the White House Music Series. The Claremont Trio has also collaborated with other musicians and ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet, the Pacifica Quartet, and the Borromeo String Quartet. They have recorded several albums, including their debut album, “Beethoven: Piano Trios Op. 1, Nos. 1-3,” which was released in 2004. In addition to their performances, the Claremont Trio is committed to music education and outreach. They have conducted masterclasses and workshops at schools and universities throughout the United States. They have also worked with organizations such as the Young Musicians Foundation and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center to promote classical music to young audiences. The award includes a cash prize and a three-year residency at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. The Claremont Trio continues to perform and record, and they remain dedicated to promoting classical music to audiences of all ages.
