Born on 2nd June 1945 in London, England, he was the son of a Dutch father and an English mother. His father was a professional violinist, and his mother was a pianist. Christopher grew up in a musical family and started playing the cello at the age of six. Christopher's talent was evident from an early age, and he received his first professional engagement at the age of 14. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he won several awards and prizes. He also studied with the legendary cellist Pablo Casals in Puerto Rico, who had a profound influence on his playing style. In 1967, Christopher joined the London Symphony Orchestra as a cellist, where he played for over 20 years. He also performed as a soloist with many other orchestras, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and the English Chamber Orchestra. He was known for his rich, warm tone and his expressive playing style. Christopher was also a passionate chamber musician and was a founding member of the Nash Ensemble, one of the UK's leading chamber groups.
