She was born on 12th June 1950 in Stockholm, Sweden. Her parents were both musicians, and they encouraged her to pursue music from a young age. Sylvia showed a keen interest in music and started playing the piano when she was just five years old. Sylvia's parents recognized her talent and enrolled her in the Royal College of Music in Stockholm when she was ten years old. She studied under the guidance of some of the best music teachers in the country and honed her skills as a pianist. Sylvia's dedication and hard work paid off, and she graduated with top honors from the college. After completing her studies, Sylvia started performing in various concerts and recitals across Sweden. Her performances were well-received, and she soon gained a reputation as a talented pianist. In 1972, Sylvia won the prestigious Swedish National Piano Competition, which was a significant milestone in her career. Sylvia's success in the competition opened up new opportunities for her, and she started receiving invitations to perform in concerts and festivals across Europe. In 1974, she made her debut at the Royal Albert Hall in London, where she performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5.
