He was born on March 20, 1910, in Brno, Czechoslovakia, and showed an early interest in music. He began playing the violin at the age of six and later studied at the Brno Conservatory. In 1929, Tausky moved to Vienna to continue his studies at the Vienna Academy of Music. He studied composition with Franz Schmidt and conducting with Felix Weingartner. He also studied with the renowned conductor Bruno Walter, who had a significant influence on his career. Tausky began his career as a conductor in 1933, when he was appointed as the conductor of the Brno Opera. He later worked as a conductor in Prague and Berlin before moving to England in 1939. In England, he worked as a conductor for the BBC and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. One of Tausky's most significant achievements was his work with the BBC Concert Orchestra. He was appointed as the principal conductor of the orchestra in 1956 and held the position until 1966. During his tenure, he helped to establish the orchestra as one of the leading ensembles in the world of classical music. He also conducted many of the orchestra's most famous recordings, including the soundtrack for the popular television series "Dr. Who." Tausky was also a prolific composer, and his works were performed by many of the world's leading orchestras. His most famous composition is the "Coventry Suite," which was written in 1940 and is dedicated to the people of Coventry, England, who suffered greatly during the Second World War. The suite is a tribute to the city's resilience and features a variety of musical styles, including folk songs and hymns. Throughout his career, Tausky received many awards and honors for his contributions to the world of classical music.
