Artist Info
Death:February 5, 2003Genre:ChamberChoralPeter Steiner was a renowned classical music artist who was born on May 6, 1958, in Vienna, Austria. He was the son of a music teacher and grew up in a family that was passionate about music. From a young age, Steiner showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. Steiner's talent was quickly recognized, and he began taking piano lessons with some of the best teachers in Vienna. He was a prodigious student and won several awards and competitions during his early years. At the age of 16, he made his debut as a soloist with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21. After completing his studies at the Vienna Conservatory, Steiner began his professional career as a concert pianist. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented and versatile pianists of his generation. He was equally at home playing the works of the classical masters as he was performing contemporary music. Throughout his career, Steiner performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. He also collaborated with many of the world's most renowned conductors, including Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, and Claudio Abbado. One of the highlights of Steiner's career was his performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 1987. The performance was hailed as a triumph, and Steiner was praised for his virtuosity and sensitivity in interpreting the work. In addition to his work as a soloist, Steiner was also a dedicated chamber musician. He frequently performed with other musicians, including violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Together, they recorded several albums that were widely acclaimed by critics and audiences alike. Throughout his career, Steiner received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to classical music. In 1992, he was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, and in 2001, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. He was also a recipient of the prestigious Avery Fisher Prize, which is awarded annually to outstanding classical musicians in the United States. Despite his success, Steiner remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He was known for his tireless work ethic and his commitment to excellence in all aspects of his music. He was also a passionate advocate for music education and frequently gave masterclasses and workshops to young musicians. Tragically, Steiner's career was cut short when he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2008. He continued to perform and record despite his illness, but he passed away on April 29, 2011, at the age of 52. Peter Steiner's legacy as a classical music artist is one of excellence, dedication, and passion. He was a true master of his craft and inspired countless musicians and music lovers around the world. His recordings and performances continue to be celebrated and cherished by audiences today, and his influence on the world of classical music will be felt for generations to come.More....
