Role:EnsemblePeriod:BaroqueGenre:ConcertoPro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1978 by a group of musicians who were passionate about chamber music. The ensemble has since become one of the most respected and renowned chamber orchestras in the United States, known for its exceptional musicianship and innovative programming. The founding members of Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston were a group of musicians who had previously played together in various other ensembles. They were inspired to form their own chamber orchestra in order to explore the rich repertoire of chamber music and to create a more intimate and collaborative musical experience. The ensemble's first concert was held in 1978 at the First Church in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The program featured works by Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven, and was met with critical acclaim. From that point on, Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston began to establish itself as a leading chamber orchestra in the Boston area and beyond. Over the years, Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston has had a number of talented musicians as members, including many who have gone on to successful careers as soloists and chamber musicians. Some of the ensemble's most notable members have included violinist Lucia Lin, cellist Rafael Popper-Keizer, and pianist Randall Hodgkinson. One of the hallmarks of Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston's performances is its commitment to innovative programming. The ensemble has always been dedicated to exploring the full range of chamber music repertoire, from the classics to contemporary works. In addition, Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston has often collaborated with other artists and organizations to create unique and exciting musical experiences. One of the ensemble's most notable collaborations was with the Boston Ballet in 1985. Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston provided the live music for the ballet's production of "The Nutcracker," which was a huge success and helped to establish the ensemble's reputation as a versatile and dynamic musical group. Another highlight of Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston's performances was its 2008 tour of China. The ensemble performed in a number of cities throughout the country, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. The tour was a major success and helped to further establish Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston as an internationally recognized chamber orchestra. Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston has also been the recipient of numerous awards and honors over the years. In 1999, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming.
