Jacob Cordover is a classical guitarist who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and innovative interpretations of classical guitar repertoire. Born in Sydney, Australia in 1984, Cordover began playing the guitar at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied with some of Australia's leading guitar teachers, including Timothy Kain and Richard Charlton, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Music degree from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Cordover's early career was marked by a series of impressive performances and awards. In 2005, he won first prize in the Open Guitar Competition at the Darwin International Guitar Festival, and in 2006 he was a finalist in the prestigious Tokyo International Guitar Competition. He also won the Australian National Guitar Competition in 2007, cementing his reputation as one of Australia's most promising young guitarists. In 2008, Cordover moved to Spain to study with renowned guitarist David Russell at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de la Coruña. This proved to be a pivotal moment in his career, as he was exposed to a wealth of new repertoire and performance techniques. He also began to develop his own unique style, which blended traditional classical guitar techniques with elements of flamenco and other world music styles. Cordover's international career took off in 2010, when he won first prize in the Open Division of the JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition in Buffalo, New York. This prestigious award brought him to the attention of audiences and critics around the world, and he soon began to receive invitations to perform at major festivals and concert halls. One of Cordover's most notable performances came in 2012, when he was invited to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London as part of the BBC Proms festival. He performed Joaquín Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, receiving rave reviews for his virtuosic playing and sensitive interpretation of the piece. Cordover has also been a frequent performer at the Adelaide Guitar Festival, one of Australia's premier classical guitar events. He has performed at the festival on multiple occasions, showcasing his diverse repertoire and innovative approach to the instrument. In 2016, he was appointed as the festival's Artistic Director, a position he held until 2018. In addition to his performing career, Cordover is also an accomplished composer and arranger. He has written numerous works for solo guitar, as well as chamber music and orchestral pieces. His compositions have been performed by leading guitarists around the world, and he has been commissioned to write works for a variety of ensembles and organizations. Cordover's discography includes several critically acclaimed recordings, including his debut album, Impressions, which was released in 2010. The album features a mix of classical guitar standards and original compositions, showcasing Cordover's virtuosic playing and innovative approach to the instrument. He has also recorded several albums with the Spanish label Eudora Records, including his most recent release, Altiplano, which features a mix of traditional and contemporary works for solo guitar.
