Born in Edmonton, Canada, on August 22, 1960, Gleusteen grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Gleusteen showed a keen interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of four. Gleusteen's talent was evident from the start, and he quickly became a prodigy. He studied with some of the best violin teachers in Canada, including Francis Chaplin and Lorand Fenyves. At the age of 16, he won the prestigious Eckhardt-Gramatté National Music Competition, which launched his career as a professional musician. Gleusteen went on to study at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he received his Bachelor of Music degree. He then continued his studies in Europe, where he worked with some of the most renowned violinists of the time, including Nathan Milstein and Henryk Szeryng. Throughout his career, Gleusteen has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. He has also collaborated with many of the world's most celebrated conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Neville Marriner, and Zubin Mehta. One of Gleusteen's most significant achievements was his performance of the complete cycle of Beethoven's violin sonatas. He performed this cycle over the course of several years, and it was widely regarded as a landmark achievement in the world of classical music. Gleusteen has also been recognized for his contributions to the world of music. He has won numerous awards, including the Canada Council for the Arts' prestigious Virginia Parker Prize, which is awarded to outstanding Canadian musicians under the age of 32. He has also been awarded the Order of Canada, one of the country's highest honors, for his contributions to the arts. In addition to his work as a performer, Gleusteen is also a dedicated teacher.
