Composer:Gaetano DonizettiGenre:OperaStyle:OperaCompose Date:1829Average_duration:115:53Il paria is an opera composed by Gaetano Donizetti in 1829. The libretto was written by Domenico Gilardoni, based on the play Le Paria by Casimir Delavigne. The opera premiered on January 12, 1829, at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples. The plot of Il paria revolves around the story of a pariah, or outcast, named Idamore. He is in love with Neala, the daughter of the Brahmin priest, but their love is forbidden due to Idamore's low social status. Neala is instead promised to the powerful and wealthy Brahmin priest, Zarete. Idamore is tormented by his love for Neala and his status as an outcast. He seeks the help of the goddess Kali, who appears to him in a vision and promises to help him win Neala's love. Kali tells Idamore that he must prove himself worthy by performing a heroic act. Idamore sets out to rescue a group of women who have been kidnapped by a band of robbers. He succeeds in his mission and returns to Neala, who finally realizes her love for him. However, their happiness is short-lived as Zarete discovers their love and seeks revenge. The opera is divided into three acts and features a number of memorable arias and duets. The music is characterized by Donizetti's signature bel canto style, with long, flowing melodies and virtuosic vocal lines. Il paria was not a commercial success at the time of its premiere, but it has since gained recognition as one of Donizetti's most interesting and innovative works. The opera's themes of love, social status, and redemption continue to resonate with audiences today.More....
