Christoph Bernhard was a German composer and music theorist of the Baroque era. He was born in Kolberg, Pomerania in 1628 and died in Dresden in 1692. Bernhard was a student of Heinrich Schütz and later became his assistant. He also studied with Johann Jakob Froberger and Giacomo Carissimi in Rome. Bernhard was a prolific composer, and his works include operas, oratorios, cantatas, and instrumental music. One of Bernhard's most famous works is his sacred concerto "Wahrlich wahrlich, ich sage euch" (Truly, truly, I say to you). The piece was composed in the mid-17th century and premiered in Dresden.
