La guitare royalle dédiée au roy is a collection of guitar music composed by Francesco Corbetta, an Italian guitarist and composer who lived in France during the 17th century. The collection was dedicated to King Louis XIV of France and was published in Paris in 1671. The collection consists of 311 pieces, divided into five books or "suites." Each suite contains a number of movements, including preludes, allemandes, courantes, sarabandes, gigues, and minuets. The pieces are written in a variety of keys and tunings, and many of them feature intricate ornamentation and virtuosic passages. One of the most notable characteristics of Corbetta's music is its use of the "barré" technique, in which the left hand holds down multiple strings at once to create chords and harmonies. This technique was relatively new at the time and allowed for a greater range of expression and complexity in guitar music. Another characteristic of Corbetta's music is its use of dance forms, which were popular in the courts of Europe at the time. Many of the movements in La guitare royalle dédiée au roy are based on traditional dance forms such as the allemande, courante, and sarabande, but Corbetta also incorporates elements of Italian and Spanish music into his compositions. The collection was well-received by contemporary audiences and helped to establish the guitar as a legitimate instrument in the French court. Corbetta's influence on the development of the guitar as a solo instrument was significant, and his music continues to be studied and performed by guitarists today.
