He was a child prodigy who began playing the piano at the age of four and gave his first public performance at the age of seven. He studied at the Paris Conservatory with Louis Diémer and Lazare Lévy and won the first prize in piano in 1913. He went on to have a successful career as a concert pianist and composer. One of his most famous works is the "Préludes (24) for piano, Op. 5," which he composed in 1922. The work consists of 24 preludes, each in a different key, and is reminiscent of the preludes of Chopin and Debussy. The work was premiered by Casadesus himself in Paris in 1923. The 24 preludes are divided into two books of 12 preludes each. The first book is in the keys of C major, A minor, G major, E minor, D major, B minor, A major, F-sharp minor, E major, C-sharp minor, B major, and G-sharp minor. The second book is in the keys of F-sharp major, D-flat minor, B-flat minor, G-flat major, E-flat minor, C-sharp major, A-flat minor, F minor, D-flat major, B-flat major, G minor, and E-flat major. Each prelude is a short, self-contained piece that explores a particular mood or emotion. Some are fast and energetic, while others are slow and contemplative. Some are playful and whimsical, while others are dark and brooding. The preludes are characterized by their lyrical melodies, rich harmonies, and virtuosic piano writing. Overall, the "Préludes (24) for piano, Op. 5" is a masterful work that showcases Casadesus's skill as both a pianist and a composer. It is a testament to his love of the piano and his dedication to the art of music.More....
