Anna Lapwood is a British classical musician who has made a name for herself as a conductor, organist, and broadcaster. Born in 1994 in Cambridge, England, Lapwood grew up in a musical family and began playing the piano at a young age. She later took up the organ and quickly developed a passion for the instrument. Lapwood's talent as an organist was recognized early on, and she was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London. While there, she studied with some of the most renowned organists in the world, including David Titterington and Nicolas Kynaston. She also had the opportunity to perform in some of the most prestigious venues in the UK, such as St. Paul's Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. In addition to her studies, Lapwood also began to establish herself as a conductor. She founded the Cambridge University Chamber Choir and led them in performances of works by Bach, Handel, and Mozart. She also conducted the choir of Pembroke College, Cambridge, and the choir of Queens' College, Cambridge. Lapwood's career as a conductor continued to flourish after she graduated from the Royal Academy of Music. She was appointed as the director of music at Pembroke College, Cambridge, becoming the first woman to hold the position in the college's history. She also became the director of music at the historic Church of St. Catharine's in Cambridge. Lapwood's reputation as a conductor continued to grow, and she was invited to lead performances with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the UK, including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. She also conducted the world premiere of a new work by composer Dobrinka Tabakova at the BBC Proms in 2018. In addition to her work as a conductor, Lapwood has also established herself as a broadcaster. She has presented several programs for BBC Radio 3, including "The Choir" and "Live in Concert." She has also presented a documentary series for BBC Four called "The Secret Life of the Georgian Garden," which explored the history of gardens in the UK during the Georgian era. Despite her many accomplishments, Lapwood remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to perform as an organist and conductor, and is passionate about introducing new audiences to classical music. She has also been a strong advocate for gender equality in the classical music industry, and has spoken out about the need for more opportunities for women in leadership positions. Lapwood's talent and dedication have been recognized with several awards and honors. In 2015, she was awarded the prestigious Limpus Prize by the Royal College of Organists, which is given to the best organist under the age of 21. She was also named as one of the "30 under 30" rising stars in the classical music industry by BBC Music Magazine in 2018. In conclusion, Anna Lapwood is a talented and accomplished classical musician who has made a significant impact on the industry. Her skill as an organist and conductor, as well as her dedication to promoting classical music to new audiences, have earned her numerous accolades and a well-deserved reputation as one of the most exciting young musicians in the UK today.
