Artist Info

Quintessenz is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2012 in Germany. The ensemble consists of five members who are all highly skilled musicians and have a passion for chamber music. The members of the ensemble are: Anna-Lena Schnabel (flute), Simon Höfele (trumpet), Christoph Knitt (violin), Nils Mönkemeyer (viola), and Julius Berger (cello). The idea for Quintessenz came about when the members were studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. They realized that there was a lack of ensembles that combined the unique sounds of their instruments, and they wanted to create something new and exciting. They began rehearsing together and quickly realized that they had a special chemistry and musical connection. Since its founding, Quintessenz has performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Konzerthaus Berlin, and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. They have also performed at numerous festivals, such as the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the Rheingau Musik Festival, and the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. One of the highlights of Quintessenz's career was their performance at the 2016 Rheingau Musik Festival. They performed a program of works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms, which received rave reviews from both critics and audiences. The ensemble's ability to blend the sounds of their instruments and create a cohesive and dynamic performance was particularly praised. In addition to their performances, Quintessenz has also received numerous awards and accolades. In 2014, they were awarded the prestigious Bayerischer Kunstförderpreis, which recognizes outstanding achievements in the arts. They were also named the "Rising Stars" of the European Concert Hall Organization for the 2018-2019 season, which gave them the opportunity to perform at some of the most renowned concert halls in Europe. Quintessenz's repertoire is diverse and includes works from a variety of composers and time periods. They are particularly known for their interpretations of works by Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms, but they also perform contemporary works and have commissioned new pieces from composers such as Jörg Widmann and Johannes X. Schachtner. One of the unique aspects of Quintessenz is their ability to arrange and adapt works for their ensemble. They have arranged works by Bach, Vivaldi, and Piazzolla, among others, to showcase the unique sounds of their instruments and create a new and exciting interpretation of the music. Overall, Quintessenz is a dynamic and innovative ensemble that has quickly established itself as one of the leading chamber music ensembles in Europe. Their ability to blend the sounds of their instruments and create a cohesive and dynamic performance has earned them numerous awards and accolades, and their diverse repertoire and innovative arrangements have made them a favorite among audiences and critics alike.
