Born in Seattle, Washington, in 1947, McCabe began playing the piano at the age of five and quickly showed a natural aptitude for the instrument. Her parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue her passion for music, enrolling her in piano lessons and providing her with opportunities to perform in public. As a young musician, McCabe studied with some of the most respected teachers in the field, including Adele Marcus, Leon Fleisher, and Rosina Lhevinne. She also attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree and a Master of Music degree in piano performance. In addition to her performing career, McCabe is also a respected educator and scholar. She has taught at several prestigious institutions, including the University of Washington, the University of California, Los Angeles, and the Juilliard School.
