Role:EnsembleEnsemble Cordia is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2007 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in the United States and is known for its innovative programming and virtuosic performances. The founding members of Ensemble Cordia were violinist Rachel Patrick, violist Elizabeth Oakes, cellist Rebecca Hartka, and pianist Riko Higuma. All four musicians had extensive experience performing in orchestras and chamber ensembles, and they were eager to explore the rich repertoire of chamber music in a more intimate setting. From the beginning, Ensemble Cordia was committed to presenting a diverse range of music, from the classical canon to contemporary works. The ensemble's programming often features lesser-known composers and works that are rarely performed, as well as collaborations with living composers. One of the highlights of Ensemble Cordia's early years was a performance at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage in 2009. The ensemble presented a program of works by Mozart, Brahms, and Dvorak, as well as a world premiere by composer David Froom. The performance was well-received by both the audience and critics, and it helped to establish Ensemble Cordia as a rising star in the classical music world. Over the years, Ensemble Cordia has expanded its membership to include a rotating roster of guest artists. The ensemble has collaborated with a wide range of musicians, including clarinetist David Shifrin, cellist Matt Haimovitz, and pianist Simone Dinnerstein. In 2014, Ensemble Cordia released its debut album, "The Road Home," which featured works by Dvorak, Brahms, and American composer Aaron Jay Kernis. The album received critical acclaim and was named one of the top classical recordings of the year by NPR Music. In addition to its performances and recordings, Ensemble Cordia is committed to education and outreach. The ensemble has presented educational programs for students of all ages, including workshops, masterclasses, and interactive performances. Ensemble Cordia has received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2012, the ensemble was awarded a Chamber Music America Residency Grant, which allowed them to develop new works and collaborate with composers. In 2016, Ensemble Cordia was named a finalist for the prestigious Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. One of the most memorable performances in Ensemble Cordia's history took place in 2018, when the ensemble presented a program of works by female composers at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. The program featured works by Clara Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn, and contemporary composers Jennifer Higdon and Caroline Shaw. The performance was a celebration of the contributions of women to classical music and was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience. Ensemble Cordia continues to be a vibrant and innovative force in the classical music world. With its commitment to diverse programming, virtuosic performances, and education and outreach, the ensemble is poised to make a lasting impact on the world of chamber music.More....
