Vasso Devetzi was born on January 1, 1960, in Athens, Greece. She grew up in a family of musicians, with her father being a pianist and her mother a singer. From a young age, Devetzi showed a natural talent for music and began studying the piano at the age of six. Devetzi's musical education continued at the National Conservatory of Athens, where she studied piano and music theory. She later went on to study at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, Germany, where she received a diploma in piano performance. Throughout her career, Devetzi has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician, both in Greece and internationally. She has collaborated with many renowned musicians, including violinist Leonidas Kavakos and cellist Gautier Capuçon. One of Devetzi's most notable performances was at the 1986 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow, where she was awarded the third prize. This was a significant achievement for Devetzi, as the competition is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world. Devetzi has also been recognized for her contributions to the arts in Greece. In 2004, she was awarded the Medal of the Order of the Phoenix by the President of Greece, in recognition of her outstanding achievements in the field of music. In addition to her performing career, Devetzi is also a respected music educator. She has taught at the National Conservatory of Athens and the Athens Conservatory, and has given masterclasses in Greece and abroad. Devetzi's repertoire is diverse, ranging from classical to contemporary music. She has recorded several albums, including a recording of works by Greek composer Nikos Skalkottas, which was released in 2014. Throughout her career, Devetzi has remained committed to promoting classical music in Greece and beyond. She has been a strong advocate for music education and has worked to inspire the next generation of musicians.
