The Vocal Arts Ensemble of Cincinnati is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with its exceptional performances for over four decades. Founded in 1979 by Earl Rivers, the ensemble has become a fixture in the Cincinnati music scene, known for its impeccable musicianship and innovative programming. Earl Rivers, a conductor and composer, founded the Vocal Arts Ensemble of Cincinnati with the goal of creating a professional-level choral ensemble that would showcase the beauty and power of the human voice. Rivers, who served as the ensemble's artistic director for over 30 years, was a visionary leader who pushed the boundaries of choral music and inspired his singers to reach new heights of excellence. Over the years, the Vocal Arts Ensemble of Cincinnati has attracted some of the finest singers in the region, many of whom have gone on to successful careers in music. The ensemble's current members include sopranos Amanda Bower and Sarah Jackson, altos Sarah Coffman and Sarah Hubbard, tenors Christopher Eanes and Michael Preacely, and basses Christopher Albanese and Michael Young. One of the hallmarks of the Vocal Arts Ensemble of Cincinnati is its commitment to performing a wide range of repertoire, from Renaissance motets to contemporary works. The ensemble has premiered numerous new compositions, including works by Earl Rivers, as well as pieces by other contemporary composers such as Jake Runestad and Ola Gjeilo. The Vocal Arts Ensemble of Cincinnati has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the region, including the Cincinnati Music Hall, the Aronoff Center for the Arts, and the Taft Theatre. The ensemble has also collaborated with other arts organizations, such as the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the Cincinnati Opera, to present innovative and exciting performances. One of the highlights of the Vocal Arts Ensemble of Cincinnati's history was its performance at the 2004 World Choir Games, which were held in Bremen, Germany. The ensemble competed against choirs from around the world and won a gold medal in the mixed choir category.
