Trio Klavis is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2012. The ensemble consists of three members: pianist Anna Fedorova, violinist Maria Milstein, and cellist Gideon den Herder. The trio has gained recognition for their dynamic and expressive performances, which showcase their individual virtuosity and their ability to work together as a cohesive unit. Anna Fedorova, the pianist of Trio Klavis, was born in Kiev, Ukraine in 1990. She began playing the piano at the age of five and went on to study at the Royal College of Music in London and the Hochschule für Musik in Hanover. Fedorova has won numerous awards for her performances, including first prize at the International Rubinstein Competition in 2009 and the Moscow International Frederick Chopin Competition in 2011. Maria Milstein, the violinist of Trio Klavis, was born in Moscow, Russia in 1985. She comes from a family of musicians and began playing the violin at the age of five. Milstein studied at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and has won several awards for her performances, including first prize at the Dutch National Violin Competition in 2009 and the Dutch Classical Talent Award in 2013. Gideon den Herder, the cellist of Trio Klavis, was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands in 1985. He began playing the cello at the age of six and went on to study at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and the Hochschule für Musik in Basel. Den Herder has won several awards for his performances, including first prize at the Dutch National Cello Competition in 2007 and the International Johannes Brahms Competition in 2010. The three musicians first met while studying at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and formed Trio Klavis in 2012. The ensemble takes its name from the Greek word "klavis," which means "key." The trio's repertoire includes works by classical composers such as Beethoven, Brahms, and Schubert, as well as contemporary composers such as Arvo Pärt and Sofia Gubaidulina. Trio Klavis has performed at numerous venues and festivals throughout Europe, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Wigmore Hall in London, and the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Germany. The trio has also collaborated with other musicians, including clarinetist Martin Fröst and pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet. In 2014, Trio Klavis won the Kersjes Prize, a prestigious award given to young Dutch musicians who show exceptional talent and promise. The prize included a cash award of €50,000, which the trio used to fund their debut album, "Trio Klavis Plays Schubert." The album, which was released in 2016, received critical acclaim and was praised for its sensitive and nuanced performances. Trio Klavis has also been recognized for their commitment to education and outreach. The ensemble has given masterclasses and workshops at several conservatories and music schools throughout Europe, and has worked with young musicians through programs such as the National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands. In addition to their performances and educational work, Trio Klavis is also known for their innovative approach to programming.
