Eric Paetkau is a Canadian conductor and musician who has made a name for himself in the classical music world. Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Paetkau grew up in a musical family and began playing the piano at a young age. He later went on to study music at the University of Saskatchewan, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance. After completing his undergraduate studies, Paetkau went on to pursue a Master of Music degree in orchestral conducting at the University of Manitoba. During this time, he had the opportunity to work with some of Canada's top conductors, including Bramwell Tovey and Victor Feldbrill. Paetkau's career as a conductor began in earnest in 2008, when he was appointed as the Music Director of the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra. In this role, he has led the orchestra in a wide range of performances, from classical masterpieces to contemporary works. He has also worked to expand the orchestra's outreach efforts, bringing classical music to new audiences through innovative programming and community engagement initiatives. In addition to his work with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, Paetkau has also conducted a number of other orchestras and ensembles across Canada and around the world. Some of his most notable performances include conducting the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Paetkau has also been recognized for his contributions to the classical music world, receiving a number of awards and honors throughout his career. In 2012, he was named one of CBC's "Top 30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30." He has also been a finalist for the Sir Ernest MacMillan Memorial Foundation Award, which recognizes outstanding young Canadian conductors. Despite his many accomplishments, Paetkau remains committed to his craft and to the power of classical music to inspire and uplift audiences. He continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in the classical music world, and his passion and dedication to his art form are an inspiration to musicians and music lovers alike.
