Le Nuove Musiche is a classical music ensemble that specializes in the performance of Baroque music. The ensemble was founded in 2004 by its artistic director, Katarina Livljanić, a Croatian-born musicologist and performer who is recognized as one of the leading experts in the field of medieval and Renaissance music. The ensemble's name, which means "the new musics" in Italian, reflects its commitment to exploring and reviving lesser-known works from the Baroque era. The ensemble's repertoire includes works by composers such as Claudio Monteverdi, Girolamo Frescobaldi, and Barbara Strozzi, as well as lesser-known composers such as Tarquinio Merula and Giovanni Felice Sances. Le Nuove Musiche is based in France, where it has established itself as one of the leading ensembles in the country's early music scene. The ensemble has also performed extensively throughout Europe and North America, earning critical acclaim for its virtuosic performances and innovative programming. The ensemble's core members include Katarina Livljanić (voice and direction), Bruno Bonhoure (voice), Serge Goubioud (violin), and Baptiste Romain (viola da gamba). The ensemble is often joined by guest musicians, including harpsichordist Luca Guglielmi and lutenist Paul O'Dette. Le Nuove Musiche has performed at some of the world's most prestigious music festivals, including the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, the Festival de Saintes, and the Boston Early Music Festival.
