He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. Lang started playing the cello at the age of four and showed exceptional talent from an early age. Lang attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under the renowned cellist Joel Krosnick. He also studied with cellists such as Bernard Greenhouse and Timothy Eddy. Lang graduated from Juilliard with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2007 and a Master of Music degree in 2009. During his time at Juilliard, Lang won several awards and competitions, including the Juilliard Concerto Competition and the Naumburg International Cello Competition. He also performed as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. After graduating from Juilliard, Lang continued to perform as a soloist and chamber musician. He has performed in major concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. He has also collaborated with many renowned musicians, including pianist Emanuel Ax and violinist Joshua Bell. In addition to his performances, Lang is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the New England Conservatory. He is currently a professor of cello at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. Lang has recorded several albums, including a solo album titled "Cello Recital" and a chamber music album titled "Brahms: The Piano Trios."
