David Ryther was born on May 12, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Ryther showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Ryther's parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue music seriously. He began taking piano lessons with renowned pianist and teacher, Maria João Pires, at the age of six. Pires quickly recognized Ryther's potential and took him under her wing, becoming his mentor and guiding him through his musical journey. Under Pires' tutelage, Ryther's skills as a pianist grew rapidly. He began performing in public at the age of eight and quickly gained a reputation as a prodigy. He won his first major competition, the International Piano Competition in Paris, at the age of ten. Ryther continued to win competitions and gain recognition throughout his teenage years. He won the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition at the age of 17, becoming the youngest winner in the competition's history. This win catapulted him to international fame and he began performing in major concert halls around the world. Ryther's performances were praised for their technical brilliance and emotional depth. He was known for his ability to bring out the nuances and subtleties of the music he played, and his performances were often described as transcendent. In addition to his solo performances, Ryther also collaborated with other musicians and orchestras. He performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra, among others. He also recorded several albums, including a critically acclaimed recording of Beethoven's Piano Concertos.
