From a young age, Tozzi showed a natural talent for music and began studying the piano and singing. Tozzi's musical education continued at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome, where he studied under some of the most respected teachers in Italy. He excelled in his studies and quickly gained a reputation as a gifted singer with a powerful and expressive voice. In 1978, Tozzi made his professional debut at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, where he performed the role of Colline in Puccini's La Bohème. The performance was a huge success, and Tozzi quickly became one of the most sought-after baritones in Italy. Over the next few years, Tozzi performed in some of the most prestigious opera houses in the world, including La Scala in Milan, the Royal Opera House in London, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. He was praised for his rich, warm voice and his ability to convey emotion through his singing. Tozzi's repertoire was vast, and he was equally comfortable performing the works of Verdi, Puccini, Mozart, and Rossini. Some of his most memorable performances include his portrayal of Rigoletto in Verdi's eponymous opera, Figaro in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, and Scarpia in Puccini's Tosca. In addition to his work in opera, Tozzi was also a prolific concert performer. He performed in recitals and concerts throughout Europe and the United States, and was known for his interpretations of Italian art songs and lieder. Tozzi's talent was recognized with numerous awards and honors throughout his career. In 1983, he was awarded the prestigious Premio Abbiati, which is given annually to the best Italian opera singer. He was also awarded the title of Cavaliere di Gran Croce, one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon an Italian citizen. Despite his success, Tozzi remained humble and dedicated to his craft. He continued to perform and record throughout the 1990s and 2000s, and was known for his generosity and kindness towards his colleagues and fans. Sadly, Tozzi passed away on May 28, 2011, at the age of 56.
